For Those Who See Everything Except Beauty.

I've been going back and forth about posting this for so long. Over a year actually, the truth is I hate bringing attention to myself but more so I hate the comments that follow after it.

There’s a saying that says “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Whoever said this is a liar.

I have been beaten many times as a child to the point that sometimes it hurt to move but even after all of that I would choose to get beaten rather than to hear a nasty phrase because truth be told words do hurt and they scar and in my opinion they scar more than the ones a belt (or broom stick, cord, etc…) could ever do.

Sometimes I struggle to find the good things within myself when it comes to my physical appearance. I see everything except beauty. I’m not going to go into why I am the way that I am but hopefully as you continue to read you’ll feel nothing but sweet reminders and encouragement

Maybe someone said something that changed the way that you view yourself. Maybe it had nothing to do with anyone and it’s just you and your thoughts left to be unkind with your physical appearance.

I want you to know that more than what you or anyone else could think there’s Christ. Your worth isn’t in your physical appearance or anything else other than Christ and you’re His child.

There’s a reason why proverbs 31 didn’t say who can find a beautiful woman because while sure, it may be of some importance it doesn’t determine our character. Instead the Bible says who can find a virtuous woman.

A woman with an excellent character, a gentle spirit, she’s a joy to be around, a diligent worker, etc… “for her price is far above rubies…” (Proverbs 31:10)

Your price dear friend as you continue to live for Christ is far above the most expensive jewel. Can you just imagine that? No matter the color of your skin, hair, nails, etc…you are so valuable.

You are valuable, you are precious, and you are loved if not by anyone else I can promise you you are loved by Him and that’s all that matters <3

Proverbs 31:10 ~ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

1 Peter 3:3-4 ~ Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

Ps: I’m not saying to abandon the care and well being of your physical appearance but on those hard days where maybe you can’t stand to look at yourself hopefully you’ll remember this.

Also please don’t message me with any compliments of any sorts. I hate to be rude friends but really, it’s not necessary.

Until next time,

~ Ruth.
